Call for BPG Submissions

Franklin Library Exhibit

The Brentwood Photography Group would like to invite each of our active members to submit entries for our next exhibit to be held at the Williamson County Library on Columbia Avenue in Franklin during the months of March and April. See more about eligibility below. This is a major exhibition for BPG, so we want to encourage everyone to participate.

Theme: “Your Best Shot” (from a BPG event). Please submit your favorite photograph taken during any BPG event. There is no time limit on photos for this show. The goal is to showcase as many BPG events as possible, so go back as far as you want into your archives to find your best shot.

Jurors: There is room for 30 photos in this exhibit: 15 to be displayed in March and another 15 to be displayed in April. If members collectively submit more than 30 photos, the Photography Group’s leadership team will appoint jurors to select 30 photos that best demonstrate the variety and quality of photo opportunities available through membership in BPG.

Key Dates:

  • Deadline for submission: Saturday, January 23
  • Notification of selections: February 1
  • Selections should be brought to the Williamson County Public Library, ready to hang by 12:00 noon on Monday, March 1, or Thursday, April 1, (these are tentative dates, and we will inform the members about the time and day after the selection).

Artist’s Reception: We will not be having an artist’s reception due to the Coronavirus situation.

Pick-up date: March exhibit selections are to be picked up on Thursday, April 1, and April selections are to be picked up on Saturday, May 1.

Guidelines to submit your entries:

  • This is open to active BPG members only.
  • You may submit just one entry. We want your very best shot. The photos may have been captured using any photographic process. Entries should have been taken during a BPG event at any time during your membership in BPG.
  • Naming of files: Please name each file using the following method:

<first name> <last name>_ WCPL2021.jpg

Example: Dick Dougall’s entry would be named: dick dougall_wcpl2021.jpg

  • Please submit all works as JPG files, 2000 pixels on the long side and less than 1MB file size.
  • Upload all entries using the form below. Within 3 days after submitting you will receive an email confirmation. If you don’t, please email us and ask!

Preparing Images for Display:

The accepted images should be either 11″ x 14″ or 11″ x 11″ square framed out to a maximum of 16″ x 20″ (or 16″ x 16″ for a square). Photos should have black frames with white matting and a sturdy wire across the back, ready for hanging. Unframed metal prints or acrylic prints are acceptable but must have a wire across the back to work with the library’s gallery system.

Thank you all for your submissions and being part of another fantastic BPG show!

Good luck and have fun!!

BPG Exhibit Team

Framing Guide

Framing-Guide

All participating images need to be in a 16″ x 20″ frame with a 1-2” wooden black frame. Double matting is allowed. Note that frames are measured by the size of the opening in the back not by the outside of the frame. Mats should be a minimum of 2”.

Metal or plastic frames will not be accepted.

Hanging hardware must be fixed to the back (D-rings and wire). Wire should be 2½” from top of frame and attached to the frame itself.

There are many ways to sign your image. If the mat is going to come up to the edge of the image the artist should sign the back or front of the image. The mat may also be signed. If your image is going to be offset from mat (see above) it should be signed on the front of the image, not the mat. Whichever you choose, remember that the mat can at some point become separated from the image so it is important to have the image signed.

Theses examples should help bring clarity how to frame for both landscape and portrait orientation photos.
